11/20/03

Well, we're not having twins. We're both relieved. It would have worked, because what choice would we have had, but it makes it much easier to just have one. We saw baby moving around - doing a little dance. I thought it had Alan's rhythm. Looks like we're in trouble! We also saw the heartbeat and it's brain, and the umbilical cord. Very cool experience and I'm much more excited now about the whole thing. For a few weeks I wasn't able to visualize what it would be like because if there were 2, it would have been very different. Here's our soon-to-be bundle of joy:

11/17/03

Wow, it's been busy. Last week I went and previewed a number of day care centers. They were all nice in their own way but a couple stood out. I'm going to take Alan to see those and we'll make more of a decision then.

This week, on the 20th, I go for the ultrasound that will tell us if we're having twins or not. I don't think so, but you never know! I think the weight gain has been normal, but also because of a lot of bloating. I'm starting to exercise in the mornings again, so that should make me start to feel better during the day. I have been counting calories, but not doing well with the exercising. I think that's making the biggest difference. My metabolism is probably not as high as it used to be. Just making sure I get enough calcium and folate each day. I was starting to eat cheese to get the fast calcium and now realize that's not such a good thing. With it comes a lot of fat, so now I've switched to the calcium orange juice. Adds a fruit and some more folate.

Maggie & John had their baby on the 8th - 5 weeks early. Hannah still isn't home, but we're wishing for them that she will be soon. We did stop into the hospital the weekend she was born and took a peek at her. She's really cute. Lots of peanuts around. Had lunch with Kristin the other day and spent some time with her Kate. Actually held her this time! She's another cutie. Well, some day we'll have one too. Probably with a really big nose!

Went to Maggie's baby shower and saw lots o' prego women! Andrea (who works with Alan) looks fantastic. She could be a model. She has a basketball in her belly. Not an ounce of fat anywhere else. Also went for a nice walk today. Starting to feel better. Think my sinus' aren't bothering me so much anymore, or else it's working for me to take the sudafed before they get really bad.

10/31/03

Well today I had my first doctor's appointment . Apparently my uterus is very large and the nurse practitioner was wondering if I could possibly only be 8 weeks prego. I said that my last period was just like any other and we had only started trying in September. She also couldn't believe I got prego so fast because my cervix is "all the way over here!" Another idea she had was that it might be twins, so she whipped out the doppler and gave my a sonogram. Whenever we heard something she'd say, "that's you... that's you." She ordered an ultrasound for my next appointment, and I'm taking mom's advice to see the doctor, not the nurse practitioner.

10/30/03

Today I went to see Kristin and Dave's new baby Kate. She's a little peanut! So tiny, but strong. Just a miniature version. Tomorrow we go for our first doctor's appointment. I'm not really looking forward to it but it will be good to get it out of the way. I'm also hoping we learn a lot of new information. There's also a small chance we could hear the heartbeat, but I doubt it. It's still pretty early.

Still hungry a lot. Yesterday and the day before I almost passed out. It may be the pregnancy, but it could also be sinus'. They're really bad the past couple of days. Had to really force myself to walk. Last night when I woke up hungry I dragged myself out of bed and had a cup of OJ and a few crackers. I think it helped make me less light-headed in the morning. Either that or the weather has cleared up and the sinus' aren't so bad. Either way, I'm still going to eat at night if I'm hungry. Didn't make a difference according to the scale. I lost a pound today. If I just eat whenever I'm hungry, it shouldn't matter what the scale says. I'm eating the right amount of nutrients regardless.

Had a meeting today in CT. Really wanted to tell everyone there that I'm eating so much and have to go pee all the time because I'm pregnant! But I didn't. Wanting to share the news more and more now. Ate a lot today also. Put a Luna bar, an apple, and an Odwalla bar in my pocketbook. Finished the last of it on the way home and by the time we pulled into the SAILS parking lot I was hungry again! Made sure to eat more fruit and a big pile of swiss chard before eating the pasta and fried stuff. Again, made myself go on the treadmill to compensate. Also feel myself starting to expand. Had some growing pains today. Felt like mild period cramps. Not fun but not bad. Didn't really realize I'd have some pain during the pregnancy. Just figured the end would be really bad.

Apparently Faith was right. Today must have started a growth spurt because I couldn't eat enough today. As soon as I'd finish something I'd be hungry again. Forced myself to go on the treadmill because I really did eat a lot.

10/22/03

Talked to Pat & Faith. Very happy to hear that they're in their house and everything's really shaping up. We told them the good baby news and they were thrilled. Faith gave good advice to not worry about anything and when your body needs something, you'll know. I was concerned because I didn't feel I was eating much, though I've been really conscious about eating healthy.

Talked to Auntie Chris tonight and she offered to babysit any time! As long as it's here, which I heard is a good idea anyway.

10/17/03

The appointment they gave me online wasn't the best, so I called the office and we're scheduled for October 31st at 1:30 PM. Alan will meet me at the office.

10/16/03

I had a hair appointment today and asked my hair dresser her opinion of both hospitals. She confirmed by fears about Brockton and said her sister had a good delivery experience at Good Sams. So today I requested an appointment with a doctor affiliated with Good Sams.

10/15/03

Alan & I Have an appointment at Brockton Hospital tonight. Really liked who we saw of the nursing staff, and their almost one-on-one philosophy, but the facilities were really dated. Have a feeling that Brockton may be just the opposite - nice facilities, not so nice staff. Maybe I'll be happily surprised and both will be great, or neither, in which case Good Sams it is!

Well we showed up at around 7 PM and they had no idea we were coming. They told us to wait in their waiting room, which gave us a chance to watch some of game 5 of the ALC playoffs. After about 20 minutes I went in to check and they said it was too busy and maybe just call before we wanted a tour to see how they were doing. I asked if there was anyone who arranged the tours and they said no. Needless to say, we weren't impressed. It seemed unorganized and a bit too casual for me. But it looked and smelled really nice!

10/14/03

Today Alan sent me flowers at work. They were beautiful and made everyone sneeze! The advocate from the hospital called today and I arranged to meet with her at 5:30 PM. Alan wanted to join, so he met me at the hospital. It's a hospital, but they do have the private birth rooms where you stay throughout delivery and then you go to your own private room, with the baby staying with you the whole time. The babies are tagged and have a security device put on them as soon as they're done with their baths. The alarm will go off immediately if someone takes it from the parent's room. What's also nice is that for the delivery you have one nurse and then one nurse for the recovery time. You may have to share with other baby/mother pairs, but you always see the same one.

10/13/03

I went shopping today and got What to Expect When You're Expecting and a great book for Alan. After reading the beginning of the book I started getting nervous because it seemed as though I had better get moving on getting my first doctor's appointment. I don't even have a doctor yet I called up the maternity advocate at Caritas Good Samaritan in Brockton to arrange for a tour and talk about some of the affilated doctors. Didn't get a call back, but it was a holiday, so just need to chill.

Results came back positive. The first person we called was grandma Tobi, then uma and jador. We swore everyone to secrecy, since it's so early.

Oahu 2023 - Day 6

Since I believed my official time of isolation was over, I took a bus to Pearl Harbor. There weren't any tours available, but I learned...
