Good fortune

We had a really good dinner last saturday at asia sushi and grill in mansfield. Shara was very thrilled they had her favorite, "idaho maki", though she prefers if you just call it sushi. The miso soup also got a good review. I had a yummy pear martini and crazy monkey maki, which was a tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, and spicy sauce roll. Alan had sashimi, spicy tuna and hot & sour soup.

After dinner we went to the sporting goods store for warm clothes for us to play in shara's snow fort the next day. I got snow pants that i'd been thinking about for a few years now, shara got a hat, and alan got a watch. Shara had great fun playing spy in the store.

The next day we did bundle up and got outside for hours, shoveling, hauling compost and kitty litter, playing in the fort, etc. most of out was fun. All of it was good exercise.

Had shara in her jammies because we weren't planning on getting home until after midnight. But shara did sleep on the plane even if she was awake the ride home from the airport.

Martin Luther King Jr. day wasn't too tiring thought. We went to a church in brockton where the kids from that church and first parish brainstormed ways to raise donations for their food pantry. That was a room full of very intelligent kids. Very inspiring for both of us. After, shara was going to do a project of making a sandwich and wrapping it up to give to someone who is hungry. Glad to know she "got it".

Nice weekend

Another fun yet busy weekend. Saturday we had 2 bday parties. The first was for shara's friend since they were infants, molly. She also got to see another of her long-time friends and some newer ones. Lots of bouncing. When we got home I dragged everyone out for a walk and then we had to go to party #2, this was for a friend of the family's. Good food and conversation. We didn't get home until very late.

Today we had church and shara wrote on her order of service that she loves church and it is so much fun. They're learning about death & dying since halloween is also day of the dead in some cultures and they did gravestone rubbings. Then shara joined me for a meeting about the holiday festival. She is very excited to be in a play, depending on what is chosen. After church we came home and made our sugar cookie cutouts. Decorating will be some time this week. We wanted to hold off on decorating because we had to get to the holiday parade, which we did. Wer also ran into some school friends and walked with tenley and kacy. There were two little horses walking in the parade and shara and tenley both put ponies on their lists. We said sure and kacy thought a purple pony with green polka dots would be nice and the final decision was a flying, magic unicorn.

Short visit to SC

Last week we made a somewhat spontaneous trip to visit grandpa and noni. We had one touristy activity but for the most part we relaxed and visited. Shara loves being with her family so much and had a great time. I asked her what she liked most and she thought the whole trip was so good she couldn't think of a favorite part. She did like playing all the games, even if she wanted to make her own Uno rules.

I have to say that Magiquest was pretty impressive and it was good getting to know route 17, back and forth.

The case of the missing toothbrush

Last night alan asked me if I moved or threw out his toothbrush. I said no, maybe anita did? I also asked if he asked shara. He didn't. This morning shara was in my bed watching "honey I shrunk the kids" and she told me she pranked me. She took the pillow that was on the floor, reached inside, and pulled out alan's missing toothbrush head. It must have been in the pillowcase for two days! It happened to be ready to be replaced, but ick!

Game On

This weekend we all had a good time playing Yatzee in preparation for visiting Grandpa and Noni this coming weekend. This Yatzee game is the original game I got as a kid. It even has the original set of score cards, including some used ones with scores from Tobi, Jill, Susan, Nanny, and even Sara Zimmerman! Shara beat the pants off us both of us! Then we moved on to Monopoly, but after a dozen or so rounds Shara started getting tired so we put it on hold. Looks like Wednesday may be a snow day, so we may have time to play a few more rounds.

Tonight we were reading a Junie B. Jones book and they were talking about a halftime show. Shara wondered what that was and we started talking about sports games and the super bowl. Then Shara started riffing on super bowls and that she wants a super bowl and it's not fair that she never gets to have a super bowl but maybe we can get one...

Thought it would be interesting to go through Facebook and see the posts related to Shara.

they're still sleeping! December 25, 2010 at 7:19am

I hope shara hd a good night sleep. Tomorrow shes going to the doc to see if she has an ear infection. December 16, 2010 at 10:32pm
Jill Lessner Looker Sorry that she is not feeling well :(
Laurie Lessner Yes, it's an infection, but she already seems better.
Jill Lessner Looker Glad to hear she is feeling better, give her a hug from me. I miss you guys already, we will have to plan out our next get together

Laurie Lessner Shara was allowed to go to town on the gingerbread houses (after dinner and eating 7 baby carrots w/ hummus). Sometimes you just have to be gluttonous! It was fun - this may have been the first cookie party I had, but I'm guessing this won't be the last!

ok, kid's slept long enough. December 7, 2010 at 6:37am

Shara's back home! April 24, 2010 at 5:37am
her grandparents - 3 nights was a little too long. Now that she's home, I'm feeling much more my normal self.

nice to hear that Shara's teachers "get" her dry sense of humor and appreciate it. I do! April 12, 2010

is that whimpering a new puppy in the house? No, it's a Shara who's having a hard evening. But wait, "here comes peter cottontail" is now the sound I hear (over & over). She must be getting better or is scared if she doesn't get her teeth brushed in time, she'll loose TV for 2 days. I'm so mean. April 7, 2010

me, "I want you to eat your breakfast." her, "Oh yeah, I forgot!" She's sitting at the table and it's right in front of her. 5 year olds. March 25, 2010 at 7:41am

Shara just went to lay down and sleep a bit. We're both hoping she wakes up feeling her normal self. February 26, 2010
she's awake feeling fine and playing legos.
She woke up and her mouth hasn't stopped moving. In fact, she woke up saying she feels MUCH better!

Last night's dinner - with the leftover kale on the side. Shara helped me make it and it will be a keeper. She wants to give it 5 stars. I left out the chilis but did use the essence (which was about 7 years old!)
