Hair Cut - part 2

Well, we didn't have to wait at all. We went to SnipIt's and they were able to take Shara right away. The woman who cut her hair wasn't the same one that did her first cut, but that person was there too. I don't think she recognized us. Luckily this place will send hair to Locks of Love for you, so we didn't have to go through the bother of mailing it in ourselves. Shara actually was able to give 2 ponytails, so hopefully it will make 2 kids happy.
Here are the much awaited pictures:

Hair Cut

Assuming it won't be a two hour wait, we're going to go get Shara's hair cut tomorrow. She's going to get it cut to about shoulder length, or maybe a little shorter. She's very excited. I think she really wants to start taking care of it herself.

It will also help Oma, because Shara gives her a heck of a time when she tries to comb it.

Shara was also very sweet today, while I was sick. She made me a get well card, laid on the couch with me much of the day, and didn't argue. Not that there was anything to argue with. The kid's lucky she got fed. I thought she'd have to forage for herself and eat cereal all day. She really liked just staying in the house. Interesting because it was so nice and sunny, all I wanted to do was get outside.

Sushi

Went to Fugakyu in Brookline for dinner. Excellent sushi. Shara loved the idaho maki (sweet potato tempura maki), miso soup. Edamame was good too. She ate the whole serving - but the last 2 rolls she picked out the sweet potato. She also liked the ginger a lot, but loves soy sauce and miso soup the best. I had her try the hamachi (yellowtail) and she liked it, but on the way home Alan asked her about it and she really didn't remember.

Alan & I tried the oysters w/ spicy ponzu sauce (very good). This was our first taste of raw oysters - believe it or not. We always backed out of trying them but Alan asked if I wanted to split them and I was up for it. Had it not been for the spicy sauce, we'd have encouraged Shara to try them too. I had actually considered trying Uni again because I don't think we had a typical experience when we first tried it and if we were going to try it again, this would be the place to guarantee that it was the way it should be. We also had the spicy tuna maki (very good), hamachi nigiri (very good), jalapeno maki (ok), and awesome eggplant with sweet soybean paste & garlic chips. I have to find the recipe for the eggplant. For drinks we had the saki flight and a Tyku Mojito with Shiso leaf.

Didn't know how busy it would be at 5 PM, but we certainly weren't the only ones there. Glad we went when we did - not too crowded but not dead either. For kids, the fish are a big draw and the staff were very accommodating and pleasant. Will definitely make the 45 min. trip again. Also helped that we got a parking space right out front, 20 min. left on the meter and only had to worry about being covered for 45 more minutes because they stopped checking the meters at 6 PM. Good deal considering it was a little rainy.

After dinner we walked down the street to J.P. Licks. No Jill, it doesn't mean Jill Pami, but Jamaica Plain. Shara had a little fit because she wanted what she had the other night, which was kaluha chip, and this wasn't the same place and they didn't have exactly that. I ended up ordering wrong anyway and she got soft, coffee yogurt, instead of the coffee oreo w/ chocolate chips I was supposed to order for her, so I had them put on oreos & chocolate chips on top. She was fine with it. I had the peanut butter soft yogurt w/ hot fudge and Alan had coffee ice cream w/ hot fudge & peanut butter. Yummy!

Earlier today I worked in the garden and Shara came out for the last 1/2 hour and enjoyed walking in the water out back and looking at all the worms. She also tried to trick me into stepping on a leaf, under which a spider had crawled. I asked her if she was trying to get me to kill the spider and she said, "no, I just want you to step there". But she does like the worms, so she doesn't want to kill everything, just the things that scare her. Ladybugs are ok too. All other insects beware, assuming she doesn't run screaming.

mmmm Chocolate Chip / Dried Sour Cherry Scones

This isn't really about Shara, other than to say that she really liked these and we ate them all of last weekend.

Teacher Conference

The other night we had Shara's conference with her KED & Kindergarten teachers. Both had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. They love her and think she's the funniest thing. Mrs. Cordeira said that sometimes when she's giving direction or telling about rules and she's done, Shara will start, "weeelll there's another choice. You could also do ...". And Mrs. Cordeira said, "I just sit back and say ok Shara, you have the floor". She finds it very amusing. Good thing because someone else could find it precocious and not so good a thing.

Last weekend we went to TJ's party and had a good time. I only had to play with Shara for a short while until she went exploring. She even tried out the rock wall! I was so proud that she gave it a shot. They put her in the harness and helped her up a few holds, and then she was up high enough and they jumped / swung her down. She didn't like it too much but said she may want to try it again to get used to it.

She's very excited that I'm signing her up for golf. She'll have 3 classes at the country club and learn the etiquette of the game and do some putting. She loves golf!

Easter fun

Last weekend we went on 3 easter egg hunts. First was at our "bus stop crew" party at Theresa's house. The bigger kids hid most of the eggs around three of our yards. But before we did the egg hunt, we decorated eggs. It was a lot of fun and proves that some of the best parties can come together quickly and just take everyone chipping in. I'm not sure if the kids had more fun than the grownups. Shara had the most fun playing inside with Anna. I went to check on her and both Anna & Shara were sitting on Anna's bed, coloring out of the same coloring book. Kira was sitting on the floor playing with Anna's Littlest Pet Shop toys. Later, after a hot dog & hamburger dinner (with canned beans that were actually really good, not that Shara would eat them), the kids all played Wii. We didn't leave until after 9 PM.

Next day we had another hunt at church, where we found unfilled plastic eggs in an old cemetery. Shara said that this wasn't the kind of cemetery with dead people, that would be scary. I had to burst her bubble, but we both decided that nightime may be scary but daytime was fine and the cemetery was so old there probably wasn't much of the people left, so no need to worry about walking on them.

Then we headed home, had some lunch and went to our third party/hunt at Oma & Jidor's. By this time, Shara was a bit tired but had a good time finding the eggs. She really liked the camouflage ones (especially since they were filled with money). She also did an inside hunt and those eggs were filled with even more money. We still have to open all the eggs and then open Shara's bank account.

So the Easter Bunny gave Shara a huge pink bunny that currently resides in her bed, a brownie bunny pop that she had for dessert (thank you Auntie Bunny), Shara actually was very cute thanking Chris for the brownie, a Bakugon from Mommy Bunny, and a boatload of candy from Oma Bunny. There's also a very pretty decorated bunny cookie. The cutest is a set of egg cups from Oma Bunny. Shara's getting pretty good at eating soft boiled eggs.

Oahu 2023 - Day 6

Since I believed my official time of isolation was over, I took a bus to Pearl Harbor. There weren't any tours available, but I learned...
