Holiday Weekend

July 4th was another terrific holiday this year. We helped out at church for the annual Fourth of July Bridgewater arts and music festival. We had the concession stand and Shara worked running orders to the grill, personing the baked goods table and also as an order taker. She always impresses me that she can work just as good and sometimes even better than the adults.

Again we came together and put on a fine fundraiser for First Parish. We talked with so many lovely members of the...

It was too bad that not many family members could come to Shara's dance recital but we did have Aunt Jill all to ourselves, which was quite a treat! We'll get the DVD at the beginning of next dance year. She's planning on continuing with Hip Hop and adding Ballet back into the mix.

There were several photos I posted about our Spring happenings. Among the highlights was Shara's birthday. Another activity I didn't have much input into. She planned what she wanted to have and all I did was send out the invitations (very late mind you) and order the pizza. I also made the cake, but Shara designed it and would have done most of the work had it not been for an unexpected homework assignment.

The other big news was the awards she won at school. First she was voted as one of the two Citizens of the Year by her classmates and the other was The President's Award for Educational Excellence — Students are to earn a grade point average of 90 on a 100 point scale and High achievement in reading or math on state tests or nationally-normed tests. Obviously we're very proud of all her hard work and she takes all the credit. Other than asking if she finished her homework, she handles almost all of it on her own.

Shara's also been adapting very well to her parents "divorce". She seems rather unfazed by it all and happy that we're dating others and are happy as well. We all get along great, maybe better and have our weekly family night - usually playing Apples to Apples while having dinner or possibly dinner and a movie. Alan comes by almost daily and it's all very comfortable and low-key.

Another Holiday, Another Loose Tooth

Last Fourth of July Shara had a very loose tooth and it was bothering her quite a bit. I convinced her to just take a bite of this awesome falafel wrap Bobbe from church made for the fair and out came her tooth. Actually it started bleeding, she took a tissue for the blood and then out came her tooth. Well it looks like we may have a repeat. But this year she's being a lot more proactive. We stopped and got adult strength Orajel and she was pulling but it didn't come out. I suggested she bend it back and forth but still didn't come out. She wasn't the bravest little toaster and is hungry because a ten year old can't make a good meal out of a yogurt and a babyfood fruit pouch. But she won't eat much, which is why I want her to get it out too. She'll be so much happier. I do sympathize. As Bubbe will attest, Shara's mommy wasn't a brave little toaster either. I hated loose teeth and did all I could not to touch one. Fun to play with in the beginning but once they get really wiggly, ick!

Lost Canine

Tooth, that is. Shara lost her tooth, which had been bothering her for about a week or so, on the fourth of July, in the pool! She took a bite of my falafal wrap (awesome!), loved it, but got a funny look on her face. I asked her about it and she said her tooth hurt. I noticed she was bleeding, she freaked, I got her a napkin, she took out the napkin, gave it to Alan, who then noticed the tooth in the napkin. She didn't even realize it, but there was a good amount of bleeding so I remembered (like I'd ever forget) Dr. Joe taking out my tooth at Gershon's way before it was ready, and me bleeding all over. He got me a wet tea bag to bite down on. It worked. We're not sure if it was the compress action, the tea or the caffeine, but we tried it with Shara and it worked like a charm. We're waiting to hear if the tooth fairy came last night. Shara wrote a note asking her name and why she collected teeth. I'm about to wake her up so maybe Shara will write about it later.

parade

I am at A.F.Y. after care right now. I am going to be in the 4th of  July parade tomorrow. The theme is 50s. Isn't that cool? Would anyone like to try beating that? (If you would like to, do it in the comments.)

Oahu 2023 - Day 6

Since I believed my official time of isolation was over, I took a bus to Pearl Harbor. There weren't any tours available, but I learned...
