I created something, thumbies! Thumbies are things you put on your thumbs. They're made out of tissues, but      

don't worry the tissues haven't been used. The tissues are wrapped in tape, and  the tape is colored by markers.

Shara woke up and said, "take my temperature" and it was 98.2. She's in the office on her computer, coughing still but feeling normal, which is what we want. She's very happy about being better.

She came into the office from watching TV, needing to immediately look up the Glow Pillow she saw on TV before it left her mind. Then we discussed how we could probably make the pillow but she said no, she needed to get this one that we wouldn't be able to do it as well. I talked her into waiting a little before getting it so she could see if she really wanted it or not. If she wants it that bad, she'll remember, right?

Sick Kid

Last night Shara was complaining of a bad sore throat. She's been having them but we think it is allergy related because it seems to happen when the temperature goes up. This one isn't that. She didn't have a fever but it was dance today and she didn't seem to care. She stayed home and watched tv most of the day, then we played some board games before dinner. She was getting more and more congested before we ate so after Alan went to the drug store and got some medicine and stuff for her throat. I had given her throat coat tea in the morning, which seemed to help and she drank quite a bit, for her, during the day. Didn't eat a ton, but she wasn't doing much more than laying around. So tonight she was seeming the same and on a scale of 0-10, her sore throat was a 4, but then she mentioned a headache and yup, she has a fever - 101.7, and at night, so Tylenol should do the trick, but tomorrow she'll stay home with Alan and hopefully will get better soon.

New Year's Eve & Day

We had a family discussion about what everyone wanted to do for New Year's Eve. I had no real desire to go into Boston again. Last year worked out great with the holiday being on a weekend, but this year it would have been too much of a rush to head out after work, even if I had taken a short day. Alan had to work too, but we were more than happy to stay home. We all liked the idea of sushi (guess who's idea!) and a fire and watch tv from Times Square. I got home and we looked at the menu from Hayashi. We got a lot of everything, skipping the soup because of the issue with eating by the fire in the bedroom. Alan went to pick it up and Shara and I got things together for dinner and then got into comfy jammies. We supplemented sushi, sashimi, and edamame with spinach & swiss stuffed mushrooms. 

On Disney Channel they were playing Despicable Me so we watched it. The first time we saw it, I didn't see more than a quarter, and Shara didn't remember it enough, so it was pretty much new to us. After the movie we turned to Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve and had fun dancing, a lot. Shara discovered how fun it is to fall backwards onto the water bed and got a kick out of me doing it too. We then ran around being silly, dancing, chasing each other and acting like eight year olds. Alan didn't join in but he had fun too, until he was ready for bed. Shara and I stayed up dancing more and then she wanted to watch the special Jessie/Austin & Ally New Year's special. I set up Dick Clark to record and we were able to watch her show, skip the end for later, and see the ball drop. By the time the ball dropped, Shara was done with the dancing and ready for bed. 

On New Year's Day we finally stayed home for the first time in months, as much as I can remember. If it's a weekend, we usually have activities at the Y and on Sunday we have church things going on. So we welcomed a day to just goof off and not be on a schedule. We went sledding down our mound in the back, I brought in some wood, Alan tried taming the pricker brambles on the mound and we didn't look at the time. We went in, showered, ate picky foods again, watched Paranorman, ate more picky foods, watched a Disney Nature movie (started to at least) and ended with another fire with s'mores for dessert. Could it really be any better?

2012-12-01 19:33:52: Sitting w/shara in Alan's crappy car, at the y, waiting for him to come pick us up or give us a jump. To be honest, now that I have at least a partial signal, it's better than being at the children's museum!

2012-11-22 05:06:48: Have to say this was one of the more enjoyable pre-Thanksgiving days. While cooking (all day!) this year, when alone I turned up WBUR. Then when shara came home, she kept me company in the kitchen organizing the place cards and personalizing the thankful quotes. Then Alan came home early and ran around cleaning and doing chores, and even ran to the store for me - to get a jar of capers? Yeah, but the recipe had to have it. But now my eyes are getting bleary and more to do tomorrow. So time to put down the laptop and pick up the nail polish so I can get more than the 3 hours of sleep I had last night! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. May you be lucky enough to be with loved ones (or at least liked ones) and if you're not, give me a call. We have plenty and would love to share.

2012-11-10 13:43:07: wow, should I wake up shara? I want to get to the Y early to do Zumba (her swim class is right after), but I hate to wake her up.
