This past week Shara had a stomach virus. She woke up on Wednesday morning, 2 am, throwing up and was up for about 2 hours. She went back down to sleep around 4 and when she woke a couple hours later, was fine. We kept her home for the day and there were no signs that she was sick. Others in her school were out for a couple of days, so she was lucky she didn't get that sick.
She's been waking up really early lately - about 5 am, regardless of what we do for naps. I tried to wake her after just 2 hours yesterday and she still got up at 4:50 this morning. Have no idea - I guess she's just going through a change. Hopefully it will be over soon and she'll get back to her regular schedule.
Speaking of changes, her vocabulary has been increasing daily and she's growing so much. The other night we were playing in mommy & daddy's bedroom and I let her play with my MP3 player. She held it up to her eye and kept saying, "cheese". Her new thing is "mieeen" when she wants to do something. And she wants to do a lot. We saw King Kong last night and his behavior reminded me of a toddler. Everything is big!
We went to the market yesterday and she was great, as long as I let her sit in the back of the cart. We had to do a diaper change and she cried when I used the electric hand dryer to dry my hands. She doesn't like loud noices. Last weekend we went to the Plant Depot and she had such a scared look on her face, like she was going to burst into tears, when one of the parrots screeched.
Today we're going to try to get to the Easton Children's Museum. Their Sunday hours are noon to 5 PM, so it may be a challenge, depending on how she is after her nap.
As soon as I get my new computer set up I'll be able to post a bunch of pictures. I try now and I just lock up.

18 month old checkup
Shara had her postponed 18 month appointment the other day. She's holding her own in the weight arena - 25th percentile, and in the 50th for height. The dr. Said if we get 2 good meals in a day, don't worry. I asked if she's as advanced as I think she is and she said that Shara is very advanced in the cognitive skills. She got her shots and basically did really well - she didn't throw up, so I think that's good. I lied to her for the first time. It wasn't actually a lie, since we're working in the relm of fantasy anyway. The doctor mentioned something about Elmo, since Shara's a big fan, and I said that Dr. Wolcott was Elmo's doctor too. That gave her pause enough for the dr. to check her ears and listen to her heart.
Last weekend we went to visit with the Senay's and had a nice time. Shara loved playing with Hannah's kitchen. I can't wait until we get ours, which should be soon. We'll then have to have a little party with Shara's friends Katie & Hannah.
Sunday we went to Sails so Alan could get the server and then over to the Slater's. Kristin had a good idea to just get takeout so the kids could play. shara was not at all into eating, not when she could play with all of Katie's great toys! They both had a good time. Katie's a very nice girl.
We've been pretty busy just living, growing and being together that I haven't had time to reflect and write abut it, but everythings been great and each day I feel so fortunate that Shara's Shara!

Holidays 2005
Since it's been so long since these events happened, I hope I'm able to remember them in any detail. I'll start with Hanukkah at Bubbe's. The car ride over wasn't very exciting. Shara slept a couple of hours, so she was well rested when we got to Bubbe's. We unloaded the car, settled in and tried to help out until the rest of the company came. The Lookers, Magough's, and Annie, Danny, Rickie, & Jimmy came.
We lite the candles, everyone taking turns. Since I didn't want Shara to light one, though Bubbe did (silly bubbe), I held Shara and we enjoyed watching.
We then had dinner - chicken nuggets, latkas, which Shara loved (glad I had Bubbe make so many), salad, and a nice couscous salad with dried cherries, which is all Shara wanted to eat. So she had a couple latkas and dried cherries. Since she's been sick, her appetite has been all over the map and she only really goes for the sweets, which there are tons of at this time of year. She was more than happy to have some rugulah, but new when to stop, unlike her mommy who keeps eating until she's sick!
We opened presents and Shara loved the little people's house from Bubbe & Papa. She also has fun with the Parent's instrument set from the Lookers. It was a fun night and we got to sleep late - around 8:30 PM. Shara woke at about 6 AM, after a not-so-good night sleep. She was in bed with us a bit and coughing a lot. She did the nebulizer at Bubbe's but at this point, it wasn't fun anymore and it took both Alan & myself to get her to do it.
Christmas Eve day was a relaxing one. We hung out at Bubbe's, played with the little house; Bubbe can't believe that Shara actually seems to be pretending with it, rather than just clicking on buttons, but she's mostly imitating, not really leaping into the fantasy relm just yet. She had a good nap and Alan & I went to Kmart & the market to pick up a couple of things, like an extra sippy cup, which was great because we left that one at Sean & Bonnie's. We got back and got ready to go to Sean & Bonnie's for xmas eve. It was relocated due to a terrible tragedy in Chris & Tom's family. Tom's sister & her MIL were killed in a car accident a couple of nights before. So with the help of Bob & Ev, the gathering was moved to Sean & Bonnie's. You'd never known this was an unplanned party. Everything was great - the food, company. It was nice to be able to visit with this side of the family, since we only see them about once a year.
Shara had a great time playing with Emily's kitchen. Emily reminded me of Nina from this summer, who are the same age. Everything was princesses and doing things correctly. Shara got the warning that she could play with Emily's toys as long as she didn't break them. Emily shared her princess stickers with Shara and we still have them, seeing as stickers are now a big thing in Shara's life (as well as bows, thanks to Oma). Shara ate ok - had a whole meatball and tried the tossed salad, but didn't like it too much. What surprised me was she really liked the pepperoni bread, which was a little spicy! She did have a good amount of bread & cheese. Not very many vegetables, but that's something that she didn't get over until she started feeling better. I'm wondering if, with being sick, she couldn't taste the vegetables as much as the other foods. Had I realized this before, I would have made things spicier. She also had a good amount of rice pudding, which I may make, but with, obviously, less sugar.
We all got nice presents and had a really nice time visiting. I always feel so sad when I go back to the Albany area because we really don't live there anymore and visits are so infrequent. Especially seeing my dad & Ev. We see them about 2 times a year and never long enough to just hang out and be together. We really do need to stay with them for a few days, but it's really hard to do at the moment, especially since we like to take a just us family vacation as well. So that's 2 weeks of travel a year, which isn't bad, but this year Shara & Alan are coming with me to UUGI, and that's another week. We'll figure something out.
We didn't get back to Bubbe & Papa's until about 9 PM. The next day we got up, had a quick breakfast and hit the road back home. Shara slept for a little bit, but not as much as I thought she would. We came home, dropped off our things, had lunch & headed over to Oma & Jidor's for Christmas Day dinner. We first opened presents and Auntie Chris gave Shara a new car! It's really cute and she had a lot of fun being driven around Oma & Jidor's house. We'll have to save this one for the nicer weather, but she'll have a great new toy come spring! She also got a really cute pink fur coat from Tanta Annie, a bunny from Oma which looks and feels real, a rocking horse from mama & dada which she won't ride, and a few snowmen to put around the house for decoration. One of which we say, " bye bye" to every morning on our way to school. We're still waiting for little tikes to restock their Interactive Kitchen so we can get it from Oma & Jidor. Noni gave Shara a breakfast set to use with it, so we're waiting patiently. At dinnertime Shara started to fizzle out, but perked back up after a few bites of cheesecake. She's obviously not highly alergic to nuts, though we were careful to only get the cheesy part of the cake.
The next day, another day off for all of us, we just hung out at home and relaxed. We played with our new toys, watched a little tv and read stories. Nothing special, but a good start to our first week back at school in a while. Tuesday I was prepared for the worse in saying goodbye to Shara at school, but she surprised me and say bye bye back, blew me a kiss and to work I went. No problems at all. All week she was great and we were done with the nebulizer and only giving her a little of the decongestant, because now is when the nose started going crazy. Everything that wouldn't come out before was leaking in all directions now - but mostly down. Nothing much happened this week.
New Year's Eve day was also quiet. We hung out, ate, napped, then went to the market and got Chatta Box for supper. Shara used to like the tofu fritters & Bangcock rolls, but didn't want them tonight and ate pancakes instead. We sat by a fire in mama & dada's room and then went to bed. Mama & dada were going to have a romantic dinner of sushi by the fire, but mama wasn't feeling too well so we postponed to New Year's Day night.
A list of words Shara's been saying - some clearer than others, but she understands many more than what's on this list.
